Here are few words from Emily….
” Hi there, just a quick note to thank you again for my wonderful “new fingers” as my family calls my two splints. I’ve only had them a few weeks and I can’t believe the difference they have made. Within minutes of putting them on, I felt the difference. I am now knitting, cooking, using my hands in millions of way that, until I got my splints, required careful consideration and attention to avoid pain. Now, I don’t think twice. I just do it! I find I’m sleeping better, the ache in my hands is gone and I don’t constantly wake up. The splints are as comfortable as wearing a ring and I just am amazed at the difference in my daily life. Thank you again! “
Another great day working with a client right here in my workshop…
Dolly’s CMC it pretty much fused but the MCP joint at her thumb has gone into hyper-extension to the point of subluxation. All this fancy talk to say that her thumb is very painful and if we could stabilize it, much of the pain of joint fatigue and tendon fatigue would go away.
Together we made her a sterling silver thumb splint with an expansion bracelet to hold it into place. We also added a palmar support to stop her thumb from collapsing at the MCP. (Same splint as the picture shown)
That was yesterday, today she sent us this note…
“Thanks Derek. I am so glad I went yesterday. I cannot believe the difference 12 hours makes. My splint is amazing. What a difference. I noticed today the usual pain I have in my hand, arm, shoulder & neck is nearly gone. I stopped taking my extra pain meds & so far I don’t need them.
I enjoyed our chat. Thanks again. Have an awesome day & stay warm.
In September of 2012 I was diagnosed with Lupus and later my diagnosis was changed to Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD). MCTD is a combination of Scleroderma, Lupus and Polymyocitis. My first symptoms were pain and stiffness in the small joints of my hands. I am a physiotherapist and mother of two small children so I needed to be able to use my hands at every moment of the day. I was also very concerned about damaging the joints at such a young age and having to live with permanently deformed and painful hands. My physiotherapist suggested I contact Derek at Digisplint and see what he could do. He made my first splint that summer and though the X-ray says that joint looks bad I have no pain at all. The splint is made from sterling silver so I can also wear it all day at work in the hospital and wash my hands (probably 20 times a day) without ruining the splint or concern for spread of infection. The splint for my right index finger immediately gave me pain relief and helps with the overall function of my hand. I love that the splints are durable and easy to clean but they are also comfortable and ‘pretty’. I get comments on my ‘funky’ jewellery all of the time. Thanks Derek for making my everyday tasks so much safer
Thanks for sending the splints out so quick! They’re awesome!
When Betty came into our office the first time her DIP (joint closest to her fingernail) was severely enflamed and sore to the touch. Everyday tasks would be painful to do not only with using the joint but also every time she touched something with her finger it gave her a shot of pain. After hearing about Digisplint at a local support group she decided to give it a try. She was fitted with a realignment splint with a pressure plate and filled spacer (like the one pictured here).
Betty returned today, 4 months after purchasing her splint, because her splint was not fitting properly anymore. The splint needed to be resized because the swelling had gone down so much it was too big! But that was not the most exciting thing, she has no more pain! She can now continue her day to day activities without pain and will continue to wear the splint to control anymore flare-ups with her arthritis.
